Sam Green, 17 years old, of the Ridge Meadows Racers Speed Skating Club competed at the Canadian Junior Championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec this last weekend from 26 to 28th November. Sam won the 1500m Gold on the 26th and the 1000m Silver, in a photo finish, on the 28th to rank second overall in the final classification. He has now qualified to represent Canada for a second time, this time at the World Junior Championships March 4-6 in Gdansk, Poland. Sam has qualified to represent Canada in the 1500m, 1000m and 5000m Relay. The first time he represented Canada internationally was in The Netherlands, Heerenveen, in October.

It was a family affair as big sister Annabelle Green, 19 years of age, was also competing at the same competition racing as many as 4 races per day from 500m to 1500m. She ranked 17th overall in a field that included National level skaters and produced two new personal best times.

Same and Annabelle's Mother Eden, herself an Olympic Silver and Bronze medallist at the 1988 Olympics in Short Track speed skating, was also in attendance to help with skate sharpening, strategies, advice, travel and meals.
